Thanks! This will be a huge help when I make my tarp. The Cat-cut kind of stumped me,

EDIT: I'll change it as soon as I get a chance, but the Hex Tarp cat cut depth needs to be adjusted to 5" deep on all cuts, not 3" on the sides as the image shows. Sorry. If you downloaded it, be sure to toss it out and re-download the new one once I can get it up.

Also, here are some more pics, this time of actual tarps done, along with some old tie-out images that might help.

Thanks Scott. This will come in handy on my next tarp.

Scott...do you have any photos of the winter tarp pitched with the doors closed that you could post? Thanks.

Here's one that Turtlelady sent me (a member here). This one is closed off with snaps running down the straight edge. Some people have used velcro, and some just overlap the doors by swinging them in more and staking out.

Thanks Scott (and TL). I was wondering how steep of a pitch was needed to completely close the doors using your dimensions and now I know. Nice.

I'm sure that this is an ignorant noobie question, but that describes me to a T.

Why do all the cat cuts need to be 5"? Is it purely for asthetics or is there a more important reason?

I noticed that the winter tarp has a 5" cat between two 3" cats, is this due to the shorter spans, three feet vs five feet?

    Thanks for being so helpful!

    Yes, you got it.

I find that cat cuts work well with roughly 1" depth per foot of length spanned achieves a nice taut pitch - roughly being the key word. So, all lengths on the Hex being a little over 5', the longest being 6', and 5" depth works great at with all those distances.

On the Winter Tarp, the 3.5" distance on the ends only needs a 3" depth to achieve a taut pitch.
