    WBBB & large thin pad

I'm the new owner of a BB 1.0dl - yay! I have an Exped Multimat that I thought might be a good summer pad to use in the double layer, but while it seems to fit ok, it wants to work its way out the side of the layers. The pad is 40x72 and something like an eighth inch thick, if that. Seems like some Dutch quilt clips might work to attach the pad to the hammock material to keep it inside the layers... anybody got some advice on this?

You could just go to Gossamer Gear and buy a more narrow pad. They sell 1/8th inch CCF for $14 that is 20 x 60 and fits well between the layers. Of course, this only works in mild climates. 3/8ths , same dimensions, is $25.

I'm sure a smaller pad would fit and stay better, but it still needs to be wider than 20". That may very well be the best solution, but was wondering if others had issues getting the pad to stay in the sleeve and what their solutions were.

The sleeve, imo, has too little stitching along the edge, making it too easy for a pad to make a break for it. Try closing up the gaps...your openings only need to be large enough to insert the pad, and then allow you to reach in and arrange it.

I second this. The openings are likely large to accommodate all pad sizes, but when I use a pad instead of an UQ it definitely makes me wish the openings were a bit smaller. I may have to do a little thread injecting action on it

Agreed on the pad openings. I think its necessary for a side opening, though. I wonder if the Dutch quilt clips might help close these openings?

There is a thread somewhere on how to mod a sleeping pad, that may help you. You would need a second pad to cut up though. I use a gossamer gear pad, that is extra wide, and it doesn't slide around at all-out completely envelopes me. some of the mods widen the shoulder area, and that may alleviate the slipping.

Interesting thread. I have the same hammock and was thinking of using a pad this summer, but I wanted to get a temperature range for the pad. I am planning on using my old Z-Rest pad. Will that take me down to 40 degrees?
    - What are the lower temp ranges for various pad thicknesses?
    - My top quilt is good down to about 35 degrees with a similarly rated UQ, but with a pad the system may have a different comfort range.
