    Lightbulb Tarpsock WITHOUT the condensation...

Imagine a cylinder (or a sock of course!) where the top half is made of a waterproof nylon and the bottom half is made up of bugnetting. Slide it over a hammock and cinch the ends shut and use a small square of velcro to keep the sock upright.

Guying out a tarp is out of the question for me and this seems like a simple way to use a tarp sock without worrying about airflow and condensation in the hammock. Is this a good idea or am I missing something?

Is this in place of a tarp?

You are correct. If I try this it will be on a bridge hammock without a ridgeline.

My only comment is that I'm not sure airflow and condensation are that closely linked, when it comes to this application. Hot air (and moist, coming from your breath) will rise, and condensation will occur, won't it?

Hmmmm. I suppose you are right. I was imagining the air flow taking care of the watervapor I breathed out by allowing it to escape from the bottom instead of steaming up the inside of the sock.

bottom half as a bugnet means you lose some/most of the benefits of a sock- a water resistant /wind proof under.

Catavarie beat me to it. I think there's another video buried in this thread.

And another video buried in that thread for a silnylon/driducks version

I have a summer version that will use the bugnet as suggested on the bottom and bugnet for the SEEP
