Free -- Singer sewing machine screws

For those that have an older Singer sewing machine (mine is a 1950's model 201), I have some #6-40 x 3/8" screws that fit the holes in the sewing machine deck for attachments. I had to order a box of them to get two for my machine. This is a size not normally used any more. I'm not sure what other machines these screws might fit.

If you want a couple of screws for your machine, send me a SASE and I'll send you a couple for free.

    PM me for my address.

Generous of you, but be aware the envelope may come back unless there is enough postage for it to be a 1st class parcel, not a first class envelope.

Whole lot of returns here, even on soft flexible stuff. The bolts are not flexible, hence the parcel post requirement, and it would be a good idea to embed them in something stiff, too.

I wonder what would happen if one embedded them in a 3x5 in piece of corrugated cardboard. If the screws were flat between tape in a cutout they should be smaller than the thickness of the cardboard.

The cardboard must be flexible and uniform Not my rule. Just reporting here on over a dozen returned parcels of soft hats and hanks of dyneema cord. Staff at the local PO, who themselves do not work the sorters, have it reported to them by their supervisors that large envelopes, which are for right-sized parcels between 1/4" and 3/4" are for multiple sheets of paper only --flexible and regular.

Now, the postal regulations say nothing of the sort, but they do say that the contents can vary by no more than 1/4" in thickness. One way to understand the rejections of some parcels I made up, even between sheets of paper, is that "paper-only" rule.

Minimum postage for a 1oz 1st class parcel is $1.95.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to remember how the free led lights got sent out last year by Gnome, IIRC. I thought he sent them in a regular envelope.

Your best bet is to buy the small (6x9) padded envelopes at Walmart. I use these to send small tins of flies out. I've never had one get returned. I was using the non-padded 6x9s, but the tins would always get crushed. If you decide to use the non-padded envelopes, you can use two sheets of craft foam (Found at Walmart or any craft store) to protect small items.

Maybe it was so then. I think the sorting equipment drives this, with pre-processors protecting the expensive hi-speed sorters and parcels from damage due to non-uniformity. "Flat mail" means really flat (and flexible), like a sheaf of paper.

When I thought I was being picked on, it was convenient to take five rejected balaclavas to a PO 10 miles away that used a different sorting plant. All parcels went through. (It is also possible that they were OK'd because with the return address from another town, it was cheaper to let them go through than return them to me. Six months later, the problem resurfaced with almost all the 100ft lengths of Zing-It equivalent. Parcels truly of samples with <1oz and very thin envelopes, < 1/4" were OK.

I spoke to our mail lady this morning about this. She didn't anticipate it should be a problem, but if something did get returned, to simply write "Hand Cancel" on the evelope and it will go through. When all is said and done, it will depend on who is working at a particular facility on a given day.

    So, anyone need some hardware?

    Thumbs up sewing machine screws

I have a 1952 Singer that was my grandmother's. I'd like some screws. I can help with the postage aspect.
