I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

I suggest you go for a loooong walk ....

Seriously though, you've probably read trail journals and books on the AT. I learned a lot about what it's like to thruhike from journals by Dutch and Chop and from the book 'The Barefoot Sisters - Southbound". One thing noted was that you won't use a hammock all the time, for a variety of reasons, so prepare to HYOH.

(Truth in advertising: I have not hiked the AT and do not intend to.)

Just think how much nicer the day will be when you wake up fresh and ready to go and not stiff and sore from sleeping on the ground with that rock that sprung up under you're back last night.

As mentioned by WV, I've read in your through hike you'll have plenty of opportunity to compare the two stiles. Good luck on your walk.

Your story sounds very much like mine in 2008. In the midst of planning my thru, I was absorbing everything possible from WB. Ordered a MSR Hubba for my shelter. Saw a thread that pointed me to Hammock Forums. Intrigued, I started reading and absorbing. Two days later my Hubba arrived. Less than a week after that my first hammock arrived. Four days after that, I sold the Hubba.

    Welcome and enjoy!

Welcome from Morgantown, WV! And lucky you! Because you're also in the perfect location to come to the Fall MAHHA hang Oct. 19 -21, 2012. Gathland State Park, Maryland. We usually get around 50 hammock hangers who get together for the weekend to hang near the AT Crampton Gap shelter and talk hammocks. More info here.

Hope you can make it! You'll learn a ton.
