protective tubes or metal thimbles on whoopie slng ends

When making woopie slings how about putting 1/4 or 1/8 inch piece of plastic or nylon tubing to protect the amsteel from abrasion. You could replace the little bead with a 2 inch tube. And for the closed end loop those metal rope thimbles. Does anyone use these in their WS or are they just overkill or is there some other reason for not putting them in.

You can do that, but I just replaced beeds with this cord lock replacement. Works just as well as a beed, doesn't fracture like a beed does and it's dirt cheap.

Doesn't address your abrasion worries though.

I would be concerned that the 2" tube used to protect the whoopie on a MSH, would prevent the line from being firmly planted on the knot and make it prone to slipping out of the correct position.

I use the fixed eye to form a larks head knot to attach it to the hammock so a wire rope thimble could not be used.

The Amsteel is probably going to be more abrasion resistant than any flexible plastic or nylon sleeve that would be put on it. Connecting the adjustable loop of the whoopie sling to webbing with either a MSH or carabiner hasn't been an issue with regards to abrasion.
