Talking New from Utah, with questions.

I've hung in hammocks for the last 2 years, but none of them have been my own but I was sold from the get go. Currently i'm in the process of getting a Grand Trunk UL, which I will use when I go out to chop wood at a family friends property. But I had a few questions, but I had no idea where to post them so here they are:
I am interesting in making hammocks and I have watched many videos, ready many articles and been to many websites, but my curiosity is on what the science and mathematics are behind making the hammocks. I am looking forward to experimenting with Hammocks.
Also, what is the Hammock Business like? is it something easy to get into, or would it be better just to keep as something to do in my spare time?
Last but not least: What do you see in the future of Hammocks?

Lots of great questions! Not all easy answers.

I've posted some questions about "advanced hammock theory," but not a lot of people really go there because I think we get too cozy in our hammocks to think that deeply. I think there is a correlation between hammock width, length, and occupant size, but I need to find some people who are really good with math and don't fall asleep too easily to partner with me.

Making hammocks is really easy and I think the knotty post is pretty straight forward.

Check out my website with a link to the hammock manufacturer list. There are a lot of folks playing in this niche field and I'm not sure where the growth potential is. I see a lot of simple, gathered-end hammocks made from "parachute nylon" that are identical. There are a few folks innovating with bug net hammocks, but with the patent wars on hammocks, it's tough to do certain things.

Future of hammocks? There are more main stream companies making kits. I think we will see more kit style, like the hennessy (e.g., hammock + bug net + tarp) to make an approachable, tent-like all-in-one solution. Soon, however, mainstream buyers will want warmth, and you can't ignore that hammocks get cold underneath much sooner than you think. Insulation options haven't gone mainstream (e.g., under quilts), but I think they will be the next thing to follow.

Welcome to the forums! I was just in Utah and met up with some folks up there for some hammock demos. My family hails from St. George. Next time I'm up, we should meet.

Welcome to the forum! You're not alone in Utah, there are a few of us here. I'm in northern Utah now, but originally come from Circleville in southern Utah. Beautiful state to hang in. This is a great forum with great people and ideas. Spend enough time reading, and there aren't too many questions you can't get answered. Cheers!

    Welcome

Here's a shout out from your Idaho neighbor. Not many of us here in Idaho either, but we're growing. The 3rd Annual Idaho Hang is coming up in Sept. if you interested.

Welcome from over here in Washington Utah. I've been hanging for about 9 mo now and been through a gamut of different hammocks. Learned a lot from all the great people here and you will too. Let me know if you ever want to check out a Jacks are Better Bridge Hammock, after several others it is by far my fav.

Welcome to the forum. There are a few of us here from UT, but I have met more from the neighboring states than I have from here.

Grizz (Professor Hammock on YouTube) has some good info on the mathematics or science of hammocks. Lots of good info in his videos.
Hammock business - There have been quite a few popping up here over the last year or so. It must be growing and good enough to keep them busy or we wouldn't hear much from them.
Future of hammocks - Good question. New things are found in the DIY section all the time. There are some pretty smart folks here.
