    Redwoods bear adventure (video)

Tues. I went up to Humboldt Redwoods State Park. I stayed in one of the eco camps the first night. Very nice. But, a little close to the road.
The next day, I planned to hike to the top of Grasshopper Peak (7 miles, 3000 ft. elevation gain). It was a pretty hardy chuff to get up there. I made good time and was there by 1:30pm. The campsite was really exposed on top of a windy ridge. And, no nearby water that the info told me there would be. So, I decided to hike 2.5 miles back down to Johnson trail camp where I knew there was water.
I was there setting up camp when along comes a black bear. I shooed him away. But, he came back, TWICE! Needless to say, I didn't feel like sticking around. So, with no other camps along the way, my only choice was to hoof it back to my car. 16 miles in total, for the day. Ugh! I'm still a bit sore from that. Here's some pics and a short vid of the critter.

Link to the video cause I can't figure out how to embed:

That bear is just strolling without a care in the world. Bummer you had to hoof it back home, but at least you got to see a bear.

    Thanks, Fronkey!

Yes, he was, by no means, mean. Just way too curious. I ran into him again about 2 miles further down the trail. At that point, I was just pissed off and yelling. He just sauntered down the trail ahead of me, Honey badger style.

Great photo's, Those tree's are amazing.. Did your strap fit around one? :-)

That bear is a dead bear soon.. Way to bold and does not fear humans.A bad thing. Needs to be either Cracker round & dog chased. Or Speed pill, before camper or child is mauled.

Sounds like a long day, but I believe I would have made the same choice. Any curiosity from a bear is too much for me to stick around.
You seem to be finding all of the fun stuff. I lived in CA for half my life and only saw snakes, bears and cats a few times. You have had some fun encounters over the last month.
