This past weekend my old friend, the camo hammock busted open.
Split from side to side, right in the middle. One side hem remained in tact, one separated.
It's been a good hammock & I'm glad to have gotten so many nights sleep in it.
I'm also grateful that it failed at home, as I was getting ready to get up any way, & that it let me down fairly easy as it tore.
I thought about taking a picture, but we've seen plenty of torn hammocks over the years. But I couldn't remember what year I made it, so I did some research.
In some old pictures in my external hard drive I found the picture I remembered. It was from the 2nd Mt Rogers Area HF Winter Hang, in 2007. I think I had just finished it shortly before the hang.
That's about 4.5 years, every night, except for maybe 3 nights I slept in the recliner. Not bad.
I always use an inflatable air mat (Down Exped mostly), so that no doubt saved some wear & tear.
And of course I had a few other DIY hammocks that I could replace it with.
