    Pinhoti section-LaborDay wkend '08

    Hey all!

Planning an easy 30 mile section of the Pinhoti for Labor Day weekend. Starting Friday, late afternoon, ending Monday lunchtime-ish.

Staying in the vicinity of shelters every night, so those without gear may be able to attend?

If you are interested and want more details, please post here.

There are currently 3 attending, if any more do, you may be asked to help shuttle hikers before or after the hike.

I might be. Too soon to tell if I will be free then or not.

Like Youngblood said, where? If I have it off and it isn't too crazy far from NOLA I will make the trip. I wouldn't be there until late friday. I may have to meetup with you guys on Saturday sometime.

Is the rides back to where we start figured out?
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I know where the most of the Alabama section of the Pinhoti Trail is, I hiked the 107 miles that made up that trail a couple of times a few years back. They have extended it southward and connected it to the Georgia section since then. The sections I hiked were gems, just like the Foothills Trail in SC/NC is a gem. It was within the Talladega National Forest, near Anniston, AL. It runs mostly N-S through there and I-20 cuts through the middle of it. The southern section has some nice cliffs and rock outcrops and the northern section has lots of water, a lake and 2 earthen dams.

If you commit to the hike, we will work out ride logistics then. Im not going to try and figure them out on only possibilities, too much work to scrap it.

Only the central portion of the trail is within the Talladega NF. there are 2 wilderness areas also. there are 3 lakes and dams on the northern end.
