    Homemade Underquilt

I am going to be making my own down underquilt and have everything I need except the fabric for the bottom. I am looking for a light weight waterproof fabric but haven't found any at a decent price. I would prefer the woodland camo pattern to match my tarp but I can work with anything as long as it isn't to bright. If anyone knows of a good place to get something like this please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help.

You don't want waterproof for your quilt- you want the moisture that passes from your body to the quilt to exit the quilt and not get stuck.

You do, however, want a fabric that's down proof.

If splashing is a concern, have a look at a hammock sock or weather shield for underquilt protection.

As to colour I suggest coyote brown, black, or olive drab. Ripstop should be good for ya. Try DIYgearsupply or Thruhiker.

Very true. A water proof bottom layer is just going to puddle water from your sweat inside the quilt. Downproof nylon is "calendared". Don't buy it if it doesn't say "calendared" or "downproof". You can get fabrics that have a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment. That will make splashed water bead up and roll off. But, if you have a large tarp, it's not really necessary.
