    Cleaning your hammock...

I did a search of cleaning and washing and any variable thereof but came up empty handed... How do you guys clean your hammocks... I'm thinking just some dish soap in the sink and rub like crazy and hang it to dry... Any thing i should be aware of...

ZQ here....I have washed several Hennessy hammocks in the front loader on a delicate cycle with mild soap. I then hung to dry. They came out just fine.

You can toss it in the wash machine on gentle, use regular laundry detergent. Remove suspension.

Hand wash in the sink or tub if youd like.

Or hang it up outside and spray with the hose.

Let dry thoroughly. !! I'd avoid dish soap.

It's a grand trunk ultra light if that matters... Has a label that says don't machine wash, hand wash only... Any reason why you say avoid dish soap?

I sleep fulltime in my 1.1oz RS Nylon DIY hammock, so I wash it each week in my front-loader machine on "Hand Wash" cycle with just a little Tide laundry soap. I remove the suspension and put it in a mesh laundry bag to keep it from catching on anything inside the machine. I also wsh my pillow and quilt at the same time. So far, so good.

Dish soap is for dishes..laundry soap is for fabric.
Really a good rinse is usually all is necessary
But hey, hyoh. Use what ya got. Make sure it is dry before storing. A day out in the breeze will do the trick.

Smart use of a top loader

The only worry if you don't have a front loader is that the washer will start to agitate. So, leave the top up. Your top loading clothes washer is a fine tub for soaking and hand washing.

Even better, you can use the rinse cycle to centrifuge water out, helpful in speeding up rinsing using less water, and bringing whatever has been centrifuged closer to dry.

On the best laundry detergents: They've been formulated to work in cooler water, and they include enzymes to cut whatever is unique to what the human body sheds.

The reason I'm asking is I think i have poison ivy oil on it.. I got poison ivy on my shoulder and I'm thinking that two trips ago I got some on my pants and then got in my hammock and last trip I slept the other way around in my hammock and now I have poison ivy down my shoulder down to my love handle area... And so I want to wash it to make sure there is no more oil on it...

Oh that's different! My Brother gets it bad so here's what we do. Soak it in Tecnu Wash. It will dissolve the oil and make it wash free from the fabric. If you use regular laundry detergent it may take a couple of times to get it all out.

Get TechNu. Wash clothes and skin with it. It neutralizes the oil. Just hand wash the hammock and garments. Then you can do regular laundering. And keep washing skin with TechNu until rash is totally gone. It keeps working on the oils that irritate.
