What are some of the small things you've noticed while laying in your hammock?

Last night I got a new hammock after a month of waiting, a Grand Trunk Single. I set it up and it was great! but one of the things I noticed was when laying in my hammock (or maybe its just me) everything seems to be at calm, even when it wasn't. but I was wondering if you've noticed anything that you remember that wasn't an epiphany, but something you learned or noticed while in or around your hammock.

I know what you mean. Whenever I'm out in the woods, as soon as I lay in a hammock I feel that calmness and I feel more a part of nature. I think its because it makes me so relaxed that I just appreciate my surroundings more. I used to take a book with me on day hikes but found once in the hammock I was more interested in staring at the clouds, the tree tops, birds flying overhead, the sounds around me.

One thing I've noticed, and hesitated to bring it up till now, is that I wake up with "Hammock Hair". Lying on the diagonal results in one side of my head usually in contact with the side of the hammock. The result is what can only be described as half a Mohawk. My wife loves the look because it means she had the bed all to herself.

Once on a trip, it was a very still and quiet night. I had just laid myself down to sleep. we all know that woods noises sound a lot bigger than they truly are, but I heard a crunching sound from somewhere. Not very loud, but consistent. I eventually thought it was a mouse or something running underneath my hammock and the sound was the leaves. So I flipped myself over onto my stomach and had my face hang over the edge of the hammock. I let my eyes get accustomed to the darkness. Soon I heard the sound again and noticed a tiny leaf move ever so slightly below me. Then it moved again. It moved ever so slightly up and down, like maybe a millimeter at the most. I reached down and picked up the leaf. Then I saw the source of the sound and moving leaf. A worm. He was digging up from the ground and had about an inch of his length out. It was amazing that the woods were quiet enough I could hear this.

My "story" is a little different from what I think J75 intended. But it was a neat story (for me anyway).

Noticed a small spider descending toward my head from an overhead branch while I was resting in my hammock one calm, sunny afternoon. Observing it's progress toward my face, I was wondering what I would do when it got too close.

Slap it? Blow it away? Hmmm, there must be other options.

Suddenly a large dragon fly buzzes by at high speed. As it passes the spider, it slams on the brakes, backs up six inches, zaps the spider with it's tongue and continues on its way.

In a split second, mother nature had solved my problem.

I've noticed how interesting it is to watch the Big Dipper revolve around Polaris while awakening at different times during the night. After a night or two, you can pretty accurately estimate the approximate time by observing its position

I've also noticed how far away you can hear a dog barking in the middle of the quiet night. (I live out in the country)

I've noticed how beautiful the white oak tree is I'm hanging from in my back yard. It's an old and very large tree with unique bark. Also the calm you speak of I get too. And I have read that in certain studies when laying on something that has a slight rock, like a hammock it simulates being in the womb and relaxes us. So maybe it's simply a memory of floating in a warm, safe, happy place.

Anyone feel their heart beat pulse through their body and after a while it feels like the hammock is moving to your heart beat...
