Congrats to you Weaver. I converted because the mountain where I live is so steep no matter where you camp, you are on a cliff. Got tired to waking up in a shivering ball at the bottom of the tent looking at my pad politely propped up against the side somewhere. I am envious of your kayak though...just saying.

And to Pips, thanks for that pic. I am about to head into the redwoods and was worried about that very thing. If you did a spike hitch on the one end and looped the whoopie through the other, would that hold using a stick as a toggle or should I bring a couple of carabiners?

    Thanks!

Yep, that'll work just fine. Be sure to seat the whoopie on the knot so that it is wedged between the standing end and the wrap. Don't let it rest on the stick! I have used sticks found in camp many times. Have fun!

    Welcome to the forums!

That's a great story! Much more bold then I was on my first hang. I made sure I tried it at home first, but hey, you did great. It only gets easier from here. I carry some extra line with me. Some Amsteel loops work well for tree hugger extentions. Maybe I missed it in you posts but I didnt see how long your straps were. Some of the straps that came with my hennesy's were really thick and short. I typically carry 6' length and have not had much problems finding suitable trees. Keep hanging!
