Ironing SilNylon

Is it safe to iron SilNylon? What temp? I don't want to mess up my fabric or my wife's iron.

Silnyl is very thin. You would need to start with a very low temperature and raise it gradually until you get the results you want without the results you don't want. I sus pect it would be faster and easier to learn to roll the hems and fold the seams rather than try to iron it.

The other problem is nylon in any form is not a good crease holding fabric. There is a reason they call synthetic clothing "permanent press". I find trying iron nylon to be more trouble than it is worth.

That's what I thought and did on my first project (gear hammock/pack cover/camp chair), but now I'm eyeing up a tarp and thought the pressing might help keep things straight with all that fabric.

I have found that a chalk line can help a lot when it comes to long, straigh lines. You might want to give it a try, especially on fabric like sil where it is difficult to mark and tape does not stick...

I would suggest just creasing instead of ironing if you are needing help on this. I have done this before with a whale bone stick with really good results. Ironing nylon without sil is difficult and has little effect until you get almost to break down temps.

I have used a simple synthetic letter opening for the same purpose. The point on the letter opener allows the stick to be used to help turn out corners and deal with small sections that your fingers are too big/sensitive/vulnerable to deal with.

instead of ironing measure your seam, mark it and glue it down I used pritt stick (uk paper glue) it worked great no problem of gumming thread injector either
