As an electronics tech I love those things, but as a guy that's spent time around old communications equipment I was always impressed with the craftsmanship of the old guys that did the cable lacing with the wax covered line. It seems the wax would also repeal water and that the wax would add friction making slippage a non issue.

I'm sure you'll figure this out, but I have a couple of tableclothfactory hammocks and I just threaded MASON'S LINE through the admittedly-tiny seam, then gathering the ends as tight as possible. Then, I lark's headed on my suspension. I didn't have any trouble.

Knotty's method runs mason's line through the channel just to gather the fabric. The strength in Knotty's method comes from lark's heading the ENTIRE KNOT of fabric, not running the suspension through the channel. The lark's head pulls down super tight on the fabric. And the seam (a doubled-up chunk of fabric) is big enough to create a "stopper" that the tight lark's head can't slip over. Good luck!

You're brave! Did you just slit the seam to thread your mason's line? I do get the stopper of fabric, but with seeing sever mentions of triple rows of thread on many of the how to's it made me wonder. Thanks, and I also used a larks head below the whipping, I just need to purchase amsteel for that.

There's no stress on the end channel really. The line threaded through there is only to gather the end and make a ball of fabric.

The triple rows you've seen are for passing the suspension through the channel, which obviously requires more strength from the channel.

I'm interested to know this as well. My tablecloth was sewn in such a way that I could get mason's line (or a zip tie) through on one end, but on the other I could only get it in at one side. It seems whoever made the tablecloth sewed one long side first, then an end, then the other long side (thereby closing up one end of the seam on the end), and then finished with the other end (which leaves that end free for a pass-through of mason's line).

Silly tablecloth makers weren't thinking of hammocks I guess.

Yeah, just make a tiny hole through the edge of the seam to get through (mine were the same as bindibadgi described: folded over on one side; sewn, THEN folded shut on the other side). The tiny hole won't effect the hammock one iota. Again, wih Knotty's method, the channel is just to gather the fabric.

If you mean the "heavy duty polyester" ones like these, I'm gonna say not so much.

I had to get one on my last order because they were so cheap, but I think they are way to heavy and even rigid for a hammock. My opinion of course, but I don't think so. I now have a nice "tablecloth" that I don't have a use for...
