The ripping makes since. If you made a gathered end hammock and put a cord lock on both sides of the foot end to create a foot box with stretch, it should work. Anyway just some thoughts and mindless wandering of WHAT IF... Thanks for all the info, as soon as I get the rest of my DIY projects done I might give this a spin.

+1 on the dual Knotty mod. Add a cordlock and it's adjustable!

Kind of an old thread, but I've been pursuing this line of thought for a while. Now that I own a Hennessey Asym, I know it can work.

Since the velcro entrance is stiffer (less stretchy) than the surrounding nylon, it carries more load than the surrounding fabric at the foot end of the hammock. If reinforced (it may not even need it) it could carry the entire load going through to the gathered end. At that point, extra fabric could be sewn in on either side of the door to form the two footwells. Exit/entry would be the same as before: split the velcro seam, and roll in/out.

Before I owned the Hennessey, I built a prototype bridge hammock with dual footwells and openings for the arms/shoulders to hang down in "side car" pockets, eliminating the leg sqeeze, shoulder squeeze, and calf pressure you normally get from any type of hammock. Unfortunately, the design I came up with is composed of about four panels, and is a real pain to put together (it's essentially tailored to a single user), but the dual-footbox portion seemed to be a very easy, and very effective design element. It's hard to see in the photo, but a taught cable runs up the middle of the hanging footwell panels.

Since this experiment, I've found the flexibility (and simplicity) of a basic gathered end is very nice; it's a bit difficult to adjust one's position in a two-footwell setup.
