    dolly sods area weather question

Is the summer (june, july, august) hot and humid up there or is it high enough to be ok? Are the skeeters real bad?

Weather there can be anything. Area sign says it can snow any month of the year at the Sods. I check here to get a feel for what it's going to be like. I always pack for 15 degrees colder than temps predicted. Just in case.

    Another weather link here.

Also if it has been raining, I call the ranger station to check to see if streams are crossable.

"For more information contact the Cheat-Potomac Ranger District at HC 59 Box 240, Petersburg, WV 26847 (304)257-4488 ext. 0"

(Thanks VDeal for the weather links!)

    HC,

No problem on the weather links - I didn't see this thread earlier.

As for weather at the Sods, while it can be cooler up there in the summer I've often found the days to be quite warm and if there are few clouds and you're at Dolly Sods North you will be baking under the bright sun. Some spots are pretty open. Nights can cool down nicely but that will feel nice. Bugs are an unknown right now but it hasn't been very wet for a while for what that's worth.

For a great view of local storms go to this map at Weather Underground and you can modify it to your heart's desire. I show radar with storm tracks and smoothing and often the visible satellite. Local weather stations (including personal) are available along with many other things.

BTW, this year has for the most part been a bit on the cool side so that may carry on for a while. We could only hope.
