What do you recomend for a rainfly?

Im relatively ne to hammock camping. I made my hammock from ripstop nylon and paracord holding the ends together. It is suspended with nylon webbing about 1 1/2in thick and 15ft long on either side, they are threaded through D-rings and then double backed.

Anyways i still need a rainfly for it. Something light that doesnt leak when brushed against. I have heard that silicone impregnated nylon(sil-ny)works however its relatively expensive (about $11.50/yd)

Any suggestions or does anyone know where i can get it cheaper.

I was directed to go to "back woods day dreamer.com" for relatively cheap nylon and other DIY supply's.

The most expensive coated nylon is just over $12.00 yd. That is for making Packs and such. You can't beat it.

    Good Luck!

Tyvek, kelty noah, or guide gear (if your willing to do some seam sealing) would be good, inexpensive tarps for a newbie

REALLY CHEAP and LEAKPROOF and PRETTY LIGHT: DIY tarp from 4- or 6-mil plastic sheeting comes to mind. There are threads about making one with cat cuts and taped edges and tape loop-tie outs. Good luck!

You should really consider replacing your nylon webbing with polyester webbing.

    Nylon stretches.

Yup, x2 on the DIYGS sil 2nds. I've done tarps from the 1.9oz (70D) red and 1.1oz grey and both turned out great.

I learned that my first night, it stretched quite a bit and everything settled into place. Since then it has virtually no stretch and none thats bothersome
