    I agree with DetailMan.

Lets see if it's never really been talked about or done before and brainstorm the heck out of it. At this point in the game that is quite a tall accomplishment. I can tell you if it's 30k to pattern it, I'm not interested in purchasing or copying.

If it's one of those giant round hammocks, like a hanging trampoline...it's been done. Just saying.

The tone of your post has me curious but skeptical. Chances are someone somewhere has had the same idea but never acted on it. I can remember when I was a kid and saw rollerskates I said to my brother "why don't they put all the wheels in a row instead of side by side?" If only I could have pursued that at age 8. Good luck!

to clear up some confusion: the piece of paper you get that registers your idea as yours so that other's can't legally sell the same thing: that thing is called a patent.

That thing you use to draft what the product will be before you make it (and use to make sure others are the same-) that thing is called a pattern.

Both important things with your business. (not bidness)

I don't know about this 'patten' but if you need to patent a hammock design, its not $30k, unless you're talking about possibly worldwide patenting. Also, if someone tries to patent your idea, you could challenge that patent under prior art clauses if you could show it was presented by you in a public forum. Just a thought.

Just as an example, the Blackbird isn't patented. Yes, it's been copied, but Brandon still sells all that he can make. He is a respected hammock manufacturer so no one is selling copies of his hammock. Why should yours be any different.

Also, lots of folks don't have the skill/time/equipment to make their own.

Let's see what you've got to offer.
