    Another Tx newb.

After watching Shug's videos I finally pulled the trigger on a WBBB. My family got it for me for Father's Day and it came in on saturday. (that mandolin looks tempting as well...)

Am I the only one that slept in their backyard the first night they got their hammock?

While Shug is awesome, he lives up yonder with great advice on how to hang in freezing weather. If anyone has a good collection of what to do while camping on the sun, I could sure use it down here.

Now I just need to find these things I see on youtube, I think you guys call them trees. I think there is one out in the pasture, but you have to fight a couple dozen head of cattle to fight for the shade.

Thanks for all the great advice on these forums. And I'll see ya round the bend.

Welcome to the trees from a few hours south of you.

Nope, you're not the first to break in a hammock in the backyard the night it arrives.

As far as camping in the sun. Don't. Too hot.

For trees, there's lot's of options in North Texas. Tyler State Park to the east, Fairfield Lake State Park and Fort Parker State Park to the South, and just outside of the Metroplex is Cedar Hill State Park. For more options here's a place to look.

There is a large and growing number of Texas hangers who can answer questions for you. We have an annual group hang in November that will be planned later this summer and if you can make it, you'll learn tons as well as meet some great folks.

    Welcome!

My wife came home last night and didn't find me. Yet she knew I was home, as we were all
on the cell phone talking. So she sent a text "where ARE you?"

My reply "Hammock" (so she knew I was in the back yard)

    Her reply "Enjoy"

There are a LOT of hangers in Texas that I'm sure would be happy to show you the ropes. UncleMJM and others put on a great "group hang" each year. Check it out!

Howdy from home! I too am from DFW. I pretty much avoid camping here in the summer heat, if you can get time away my favorite is CO in the summer. In the fall and spring (winter too if you like the cold) there's lots of good hanging within 3-4 hours north in OK and AR(check out ouachitamaps.com). There's a pretty cool trail along Lake Texoma (Cross Timbers Trail) that's only about an our and a half drive-perfect for a weekend getaway. There's lots of good places to hang with a good view of the lake. Be sure to hang your food high, the coons are pretty bad.
