the matrix has you
It sounds like you need to experiment with laying on more of a diagonal, rather than altering or sending it back.
Most ridgelines are set at about 83% of the length of the hammock fabric. For an 11' hammock, that's right at 9ft...
I bet that's an incredibly comfortable hammock if you give it a chance.

I don't have that problem with my eleven footer. Made an adjustable RL for it, but it hangs fine without it. Use the RL to hang a pouch and bug net.
The Big Daddy tarp works great too.
Pull the RL and try hanging without it.
Love is blind. Marriage is an eye opener.
If your tarp is 11 ft long, but the hammock ridgeline is only 9ft...then there's a foot of overlap on each end. As long as the tarp is pitched closely to the ridgeline, you should stay quite dry.
I think you're closing off a lot of advantages if you don't give them a chance.
HYOH!

Ridgelines aren't new. Speer and Hennessy were both using them...as long as Claytor has been around.
You just need to expand your horizons a little. Try some different laying positions in the hammock, more diagonal. That ridgeline will grow on you, once you figure out that it helps you get the same lie every time.

I love, love, love my ridgelines Where else would I put all my nick knacks My hammock is 12'; however my suspension is sat at 11' on my hammock, my ridgline is 109.5" and adjustable, my 11.5' tarp is plenty big enough. Perhaps you just aren't happy with the hammock at all, or maybe it's just the change. Some times we just have a hard time with change. Just saying.
I've never tried a hammock without a ridgeline, so I don't have much to go on. I love an adjustable ridgeline because:
a) the trees in my backyard are 25 ft. apart. I can't imagine trying to get a proper lay without a ridgeline.
b) I have a few different tarps. When I'm hanging under my Grand Trunk Funky Forest tarp with 14 ft. ridgeline, I don't have to worry about a hammock ridgeline. However, when I'm under my HG 4S Cuben Fiber at 10 ft. 6 inches, I like to adjust the hammock ridgeline so I'm covered completely.
I really don't adjust my hammock ridgeline very often, but I like the option.
