Hey everyone,
I'm sure glad I found HF! I bought a nice rope hammock about a year ago and hung it in my back yard. Well, it completely exceeded my expectations for comfort, r & r! Many times I've laid there thinking how nice it would have to be to just spend the night out there!
I started watching all the hammock hiking/camping videos on YouTube, (especially Shug!!!!), and the hanging bug bit me. Before I knew it, I had an ENO DN, ENO bug net, webbing straps, parachord, cheap tarp, etc.
I haven't slept in the woods since high school in a pup tent!
Last night I got everything set up and tried it out. It was a very calm, quiet night w/ temp in the mid 60's. I used a sleeping bag clamped to the bottom of my hammock, with the excess flopped over me for a crude UQ/TQ effect. It all worked well as long as I kept it all in place!
Things went pretty well considering this was my first time all night long in a hammock. I've still got to do some experimenting with the ridge line. If I can just get a little more comfortable, I already know that I'm gonna love this!
I'm already looking into my UQ options, a better tarp, camp stoves, etc. One step at a time!
I hope to get this stuff figured out to some degree and then recruit some buddies and get them out there hanging with me. Time will tell.........
Thanks to all for the great info!
Happy Hangin'!
