    WBBB D/L Question

I should be getting a new WBBB 1.7 double layer hammock really soon (it's in transit). Can anyone suggest the best insulation to go in between for summer and early fall? They must make something that stays in place and isn't too big, don't they?

    Thanks for the help...

A simple blue Wally world pad is your cheapest option, it's around $12 or less and will stay put in a double layer.

    Warmer weather:
I use a foam pad left over from the car camping kit. I have chopped it into a 3/4 size (just below knees). I use the remain part for my feet when sleeping at home...on the trail I use pack or nothing.

    Cold weather:
TQ & UQ all the way.

Put a few lines of seam seal on both sides of the pad to insure that it stays put.

I think I know where I can get some of that stuff, but it's retangular, do you need to cut it to shape. Sorry for the questions I have only seen the WBBB on videos that Shug made (funny guy)...

Thanks, good to hear I don't need an under quilt. If I spend any more money my wife may make this hammock my new home.

I don't want to appear dumb but is seam seal some kind of velcro?

    my thoughts

are that the seam seal must give you some semi sticky grooves to keep the pad from sliding around.

I found my BB really comfy until I put that blue walmart pad in. It prevents the hammock material from giving you the normal stretch. If you have a backyard test setup, I would experiment with different non down blankets( gi poncho quilt) and see if you can get a comfortable lay and the warmth you need. I use a cutoff piece from the walmart pad to keep my GOLITE pinnacle pack rigid. I then use this part for my feet only and that lets me enjoy the hammock sag.

    good luck

Seam seal I think Madd777' talkin about is seam grip made by Mc Nett. You can do lines or dots. Its an old trick that people do on their pads so they don't slip when your on the ground. Works with hammocks too! You also can try RTV silicone on the pad to acheive the same result. Grip soaks in better into the pad.

I use my Thermarest prolite 3 or 4 in between my layers of the hammock. I partially fill it up with air. Gossamer gear sells a pad that is quite popular here for use by a lot of forum members. I have since started using UQ's or a combo of UQ and pad! Good luck on finding what is going to work for you!

Ditto on that. Wallyworld sells two different blue foam pads, one is about 20" wide and a bit on the narrow side. The other is 24"+ wide and has a waffle pattern (sell for about $13 and weights 15oz). I have used this waffle patterned pad many a nights until I could afford a real UQ. Found it to be very comfortable and the double layer BB keep the shifting to a mimimum.

Picture of the pad in my wife's BB.
