For rain?

Gladiator, yes. I have a separate ridgeline for my tarp. I used some old 550 cord. I attach the tarp using prussik knots. The very first night out, I removed the tarp from the hammock, as I knew that, in the rain, that setup likely wouldnt be ideal. Mine has worked OK, although I am upgrading my tarp soon to a Mac Cat 8x10.
Tarp in outer pocket. Set up tarp. Unpack underneath it. hang hammock underneath it. Drier than setting up a tent in the rain.
Like others have already said, a separate tarp is absolutely cool.
I related a rain experience at the link below. That trip I was car camping, but there is no reason to believe that it would have been any different backpacking.

I have always kept the rainfly attached to the HH when I wrap it up in the snakeskins. Even if the rain is coming down you can typically keep the hammock dry during setup.

My tarp is separate from the Hennessy. If it gets wet it gets packed in the mesh outer pocket of my pack.

I would think the main problem would be if there was condensation on the inside of the tarp. As there often is. But otherwise, if you can manage to wrap it up( with snake skins or otherwise) in the windy rain without exposing the hammock, you might do OK. I have had some of the workers and product users at HH tell me that is the main benefit of the SSs, wrapping up and setting up in the rain. I have never actually tried it myself. It would save a couple of ounces if it can be done.
