Poison ivy

I've seen recommendations for Technu to clean hammock, tarp and suspension. Other ideas? Is it used full strength or diluted?

This would be helpful advise. I was looking for trees to set up at a campground this weekend. Quiet a few had the 'fuzzy' vines going up the side. I would imagine the tree straps being on them all night would soak up a lot of the oil. Making me itching thinking about it.

Not all fuzzy vines are PI...Virginia creeper, once it gets large enough, looks the same.

FWIW, and this is just an opinion, the woody vines are not the culprits. The leaves high in the canopy are the villains, putting a fine aerosol of urushiol...PI rain, if you will. Gets on everything. Again, just an empirically derived opinion.

I speak from harsh experience when I say the vine is just as bad as the leaves. Time of year makes no difference. Aerosol mist of urushiol? I hadn't heard that one before. Might explain why I get blisters just getting in the vicinity of this evil weed.

Never encountered PI - and it sounds like I ought to be glad I haven't. I tried looking up obvious ways to neutralize the compound, but its apparently a lacquer of sorts.

Not like stinging nettles with formic acid. That's easy to take care of.

Anyone have a pain comparison between the two plants? So I may get a better grasp of what it's like to get stung?

Poison Ivy doesn't sting, just ITCHES like crazy, and scratching makes it worse.

I eat the leaves every Spring (start small) to develop and maintain immunity. Alternatively, drink goats' milk - goats love to eat PI. Some caution required, but it's worked for me for the last 27 years. I used to get it bad. YMMV.

That sounds horrible, but I love the idea. Sure is one hell of a fix if you can pull it off.
