    Crazy Creek Tarps

Crazy Creek. I have a friend who gets pro deals with them so I can get a discount on ordering them. I was thinking about the Crazy Tarp Standard, but thought it may not be big enough (first trip will be in early Oct on AT in mid Virginia (near Glascow), but the Big Area (standard or lite) would be too big and too much hassle to setup. I've been wanting to get one of Outdoor Equipment Supplier tarps, but I also wanted to save money (shop frugally, not cheaply). Thoughts or suggestions for other tarp options to consider?

This might be a good compromise: http://www.fedtacticaldirect.com/sea....y=9&search=GO

Chinooks have a good reputation here. They aren't the lightest by far, but the price is great. It just depends on your priorities. This one is 12x9.6. so it is almost as big as the Big Area, but 1/3 the price.

I'm really impressed by that price. I'm assuming that doesn't include the cost of any of the tiedowns you need?

Nope. Just the tarp. Since it is polyester and less prone to stretch over night like silnylon, you could make plain tie outs with braided mason line. It is dirt cheap at someplace like Lowe's or Home Depot. I think I got something like 500 ft. for less than $4.00.

Excellent idea. I have a spool of that exact line laying around the house from the last privacy fence I built

It is exactly what I am using for my Chinook. Mason line is quite popular among forum members.

Welcome to the forum from just south of you by the way!

How much does that chinook weigh... I know you said its not the lightest but i didn't see any weight listed... Looks like a winner for my next hammock tarp if the weight isn't too redonkulous...

The smaller of the Chinooks (12x9.6) is 31oz. It's a pretty hefty unit.

I saw on another thread a while back that someone weighed it and it came in at 31oz. including stuff sack. I don't have the budget to go ultra light so it works for me.
