Hoosier Hangers Familiar with Nebo Ridge Trail/Brown Hollow/Browning Hill

Quick question for you guys: Given the drought we've been having, what are the chances water will still be at the Hoosier Hang campsites? Or anywhere else on the Nebo Ridge Trail?

I'm going this weekend; not sure if I'll head out tonight or tomorrow, but if anybody wants to join, I'm sure I can be flexible.

Always water on the hill. But it's filter killer.

Yep...I'd say zero chance of water in the creeks/runoffs. There's a pond on the hill as HMH said and one just off of Nebo (39° 3'35.97"N, 86°13'23.91"W according to Google Earth), not far from Berry Ridge Road, if you're observant. Think small stagnant ponds.

We call it soup.

It's pretty much BYOW until further notice. Even in the best of circumstances, I'd be hard pressed to pull water from either of those two sources. Usually take it from the small branch at the base of the hollow west of the stones, but I'm sure that's dry as a bone right now.

Last report I heard of was from Mule and Jerry the hiker. They posted a "we bailed" trip report, due to NO WATER in the creeks.
So carry it in or head to the lake (Monroe). That pond on the hill is nasty at the best.

Filter it AND treat it (boil or chem) for best results.

Yeah, I went and bailed, too. Hauled 4 liters and that was just enough for one day with my dog and I. Ticks are the worst I've seen, too. Gonna wait for some serious rain before I head back out there, and stick to the Deam Wilderness for the summer.

There, was water down there on 8-15-12, I just came back from that site. It was small isolated puddles, some better than others. A good pre-filter was definitely needed. I would advise freezing a couple gallons of water and leaving them in a cooler in the car. If water isn't available to your liking you could hike out to the car and carry them back to your camp.

I'm planning to go back next week and camp at a different site I scouted. Keep an eye out for my trip report.

Doesn't surprise me all that much. The creek through Brown Hollow is riddled with seep springs. There should be some sort of at least pothole water sources, but difficult to find. Usually in the summer when it's hot enough to wade the creek down there, you can feel very abrupt temp changes as you walk past them. Back up a step or two and you can find them.
