Nacrabiner (sort of) Tarp line idea

This may be an old idea - or it could be a really cool new idea!

I kept looking at my tech line & amsteel tarp lines that had a loop on one end with a nacrabiner to connect around the tree.

I kept the loop but added a figure 8 loop just up from the bury, I pulled the Fig8 really tight so it made a hard knot.

Basically it is a poor man's nacrabiner when you put the loop over the knot and pull tight. Has not failed me yet and I use a figure 9 on the other end and pull extremely tight.

25 feet of tech line plus small figure9 is 7 grams.

    See below for pics...any comments???

    Thanks, FH

Was just about to fid up a new one piece tarp ridge with some dutch hooks and a flyz but I am going to give this method a shot to eliminate one of the hooks. I need to find a schematic for the figure 8 stopper knot...
    Thanks for the tip!

i do it in a similar fashion.
tie a knot in the end of the string.i like a monkeyfist.then tie a loop below that.the loop should be a little longer then the knotted end.

or the same thing but spliced instead of knotted for the loop.i have found the slideing lock to be unnecessary

on the other end i do a marlin spike hitch and trail stick,in place of a fig.9.
like this.i can get the line very tight like this.

I thought about the monkey Fist but that know always irritates me trying to tie.

The Figure 8 loop (I tie it around a knitting needle so I can pull it extremely tight) makes a nice knot and I can make a very small loop so the slider is not necessay either.

    Thanks for the other ideas!

I quite like the look of it, but I don't really see any advantages of that setup over a simple quick easy to do and release whatever-you-like-hitch?
