I dont know about best but I use 1.2 tech lime for tie outs and 1.4 dyneema for my RL.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
The 1.2 tech line from www.DIYGearSupply.com is the lightest and still overkill strength wise. It's also great to have around for other uses. Braided mason line will also work just fine on tarp side tieouts but on the ridgline, I would replace it often because it's not so good at abrasion resistance on tree bark.

"Lightest" and "best" are two different lines. You've got to figure out what you want. The lightest I've used is cheap Spectra fishing line from China via eBay. 100 lb test. I sleeved one end 4" in hollow braid dacron so I could tie a bowline. I used a taut-line hitch on the other end. If you're careful, it's a workable solution, which is cheap ($5 shipped for 300 ft!), very low weight and low bulk. I had to tie surveyor's ribbon to the guy outs because people kept tripping over the lines, and I eventually switched back to 1.75 mm Zing-it with Line-locs (now designated as "best" for me). I still carry a couple of 12 ft. lengths of the fishing line as spares or guy out extenders.
My personal choice is the 1.2tech line from Scott L. at diygearsupply!

I use mason line from The Home Depot. Light Cheap and tough.
i picked up 250 ft of braided mason twine at home depot for the corners and zing it for the ends that connect to trees

Why bother about the weight of your lines. I use 1.5 mm dyneema with mini line locks. But my main weight saver is to put 1 liter of “Famous Grouse Whisky” into a Platy.
Best for me (but not cheap) is spyderline. I use knots instead of hardware so it is easy tying and untying with rope designed for sailing. But like I said, not cheap.
