Not really. I've seen a hundred views between posts before.
Yes for a given size, Tera is the stronger thread.
I've used the Tera 40 before and it worked OK with my machines.
I usually use the Mara 70 for everything from 1.0 0z ripstop to sewing loops in webbing for tree straps. It is considerably stronger than the average polyester thread at the sewing stores, has all the strength needed for my uses and is less expensive than Tera 40.
I see DIY Gear has Tera 60 and 80 available now. I have not used them.
IIRC the Tera series is heavier duty (shoes, luggage, gear), while the Mara is more general purpose (clothing). The Mara series is fine for hammocks and quilts. We're not usually sewing anything heavy. Some home machines don't do well with the heavy industrial threads. The thread tensioners and needles are designed for lighter weight threads.
not sure that i really understand it but here you go:
tera https://www.guetermann.com/shop/en/v...omp_0000000D8M
mera https://www.guetermann.com/shop/en/v...omp_0000000DAC
I kind of shy away from these questions because there are definitions of Mara and Tera, but they don't get followed. Tera has to do with tensile strength vs diameter and Mara has to do with weight per length. As far a gutterman goes. Mara 40 is a different horse than Tera 40, why? I really have no clue. I don't know how to compare them since they aren't actually labeled according to normal conventions.

Reading this "thread" sent me to Gutterman's website. Mara and Tera are names for different products. So the number after the name is not indicative of thread size compared to other products. Gutterman uses Tex as a measure of thread size for both Mara and Tera. Tex is the mass in grams of 1000 meters of thread.
It would seem to me that ( Mara ) is more
For (gen. Perp.)Where as ( Tera ) would be
Better used where you want an extra strong hold
At stretch points and the like.
Just a thought
But what do I know
Not much really
