Aug 10th weekend is out. I'm taking my daughter and her friends out for a camping trip. I was thinking about going from Eagle Lakes/Fordyce Creek to Lake Spaulding. But anything in that area would be good. I haven't been there yet.

The trailhead is right off Bowman lake rd. Maybe three miles from the picnic area/ toilet. There's just a green gate and tiny sign. When we did this in early July, the trail abruptly stopped because of a raging waterfall. Turns out they were releasing water from the slough. So, we had to hike straight up the pipe and got a behind the scenes tour of the water system. It was actually pretty cool.
Anyhoo. We camped on the lake that night. But the real treasure was the hike the next day. We went a a little ways up the stream/ river that connects Spaulding and Beyers. There were waterfalls carving through granite that rivaled stuff I've seen in Yosemite. And, Some really nice spots to camp along the way. Needless to say, I'd like to see what else that trail has to offer.
What's Aug 2nd or 17th like on your calendars?
PS thanks for the link, sidewinder
Here's a shot of that river
No gpx. Honestly, I don't know what that is. Estimated mileage from trailhead to Beyers is 8 miles. Moderate with some steeps.
There are so many trails that interconnect in that area that solid info is difficult to find. Even this short hike involves the Lake Spaulding trail, Fordyce creek trail and Beyers lakes trail. I'll get some more solid info, soon.
A gpx is a file that can be loaded into a gps, I had created a route to go through eagle lake, fordyce creek, hit 2 waterfalls and then to spaulding lake. I'll try to create one to follow the route you mentioned. You can also use that gpx file and load it into Google Earth.
Aug 17-19 looks good for me. Anyone else joining us?
Those dates might work for me. Are we talking Spaulding to Beyers lake?probably should start a different thread with the new Trip name.
