Weigh the amsteel before you worry about swapping to something else. Do not go to paracord, it stretches. For starters I would use a fig 8 on one end and tie a clove hitch with a keeper on the other so you can adjust the length. 83% is right if you attach it to the right place. Your problem is that there are variables in the length of the loops on the ends to the attachment points. A couple of inches either way throws off the number. Wrap a piece of tape on the ridge line a foot or so from where you think it will end and use it as a witness to change the length +- 2" and you will learn things. ;-)
