Weigh the amsteel before you worry about swapping to something else. Do not go to paracord, it stretches. For starters I would use a fig 8 on one end and tie a clove hitch with a keeper on the other so you can adjust the length. 83% is right if you attach it to the right place. Your problem is that there are variables in the length of the loops on the ends to the attachment points. A couple of inches either way throws off the number. Wrap a piece of tape on the ridge line a foot or so from where you think it will end and use it as a witness to change the length +- 2" and you will learn things. ;-)

Paracord is not really a good choice for anything in the hammock world. It stretches and is far to weak for most any application for a hammock suspension. There are far better choices for hammock use. If your ordering some stuff from Scott at Backwoods/DIY Gear supply then add some amsteel.

Everyone loves to bury their rope now a days. Does bury the rope use less rope than say using a bowline, triple fisherman's, etc... It is definitely cleaner looking to bury the rope, but it sure can't be faster.

Once you've done it a few times, it's fast and easy. Just look around for some of the great tutorials on this site and search for some videos on youtube.
Another advantage is that a bury retains the strength of the cord (I've heard up to 90ish%), where knots will weaken the cord.

So I ended up just doing the adjustable SRL. I started by just playing with the locked brummel tutorial and once I saw how easy it was I fired up the spreadsheet on got started. Now I'm hooked. Ordering up some more Amsteel to do suspension and RL rigs for my girlfriend and roommate. I was thinking about DIY for their hammocks, but after looking at materials it barely seems worth it when I can get an ENO SN from amazon for $40.

So here is a pic. I'm pretty proud of it despite how easy it actually was. I used 8awg wire doubled in place of yarn needles or a real tool (fid?).

Thanks for the info! Good to know about cord strength. One last question, how do you know how much to bury? Please lead me in the right direction. I think I may start to tinker with amsteel.
