Do they make those buckels out of something stronger than plastic, or can you find another type of quick release???

Is there some way you could fix up a toggle arrangement instead of relying on a buckle? I'm having trouble envisioning your set up so I may be all wet here.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Bingo. Put a Marlinspike hitch and toggle on the webbing, now you have a place to hook the shock cord for the tarp.

I have my MacCat set up almost the same as my Speer, only with lighter duty hardware. I use 3mm Spectra line from the ridgeline of the tarp with a mini carabiner at the end. I loop the line around the tree on each end and click the mini carabiner. Then center the tarp and tighten each line with clamshell line runners. Very, very quick to set up.

What are clamshell line runners? I'm sorry I'm not familiar with them.

I would just have said Line runners but some people refer to them as clamshells. Here is Hilleberg's version, which are the ones I use.... wonderful tensioners for any tarp or tent lines.

My quest for a sliding device on the straps which I can tie my tarp line to is over. My goal was to go around the tree one time with the hammock suspension strap and attach the tarp ridge line to the strap. You know those Andersj buckles? Well, they work great! I had a friend make me a pair and viola, they grab the strap very nicely and are adjustable.

There is great knowledge and experiance stored up in the archive here and at WB, hammock forums....Extracted short answer is...

    TIE TO THE TREES...

All tarps tied to the suspensions lines become dynamic design pitches.... Thus a miriad of old issues to jerry rig around...Trees = static design pitch...Once right, done.... hang safe and dry, sleep right.

Fourth, Pull out the straps also stored in an outside pouch of pack.

Fifth, While still wearing pack and Packa, run strap around suitable tree and clip biner. Do the same with the other tree, for me I like about 15-16 feet apart.

Sixth, Attach tarp ridgeline D-ring to side release buckle attached to strap. Pull tarp out of stuff sack as I walk to other tree. Attach tarp D-ring to other side release buckle clip on strap. Adjust buckles on each end to center tarp between trees.

Seventh, Pull out stakes and tensioners stored in pouch and stake out tarp.

Eighth, Remove pack and Packa, find AL burner and pot and make coffee.

Ninth, Pull out hammock and attach each end cinch buckles to straps. Adjust for proper tension.

Tenth, Unzip bugnet and unload pack in hammock to sort things out.

Eleventh, Finish coffee, consider another cup....decaf for sure.
Now there's a man that has got his priorities right, referring to the brew up of coffee, and then consider another, same with me only being a Brit, its got to be tea, only one thing better than a cup of tea, and that's another one

I know that's true from a physics perspective, but when I left the 4 stakes and ground dwelling behind and entered the hanging world, I left the ultimate "static" for the "dynamic" challenge hanging affords. Part of my enjoyment is the mental challenge in a dynamic realm. Not to mention, where I hang...there often aren't trees, but rocks where "once around" may be all you get or all you want to do.
