I have the Exped 7. It is by far and away the best pad I have ever slept on. Pricey but well worth the money. I use it when I camp with my son and the Cub Scout Pack.

    I like these guys: http://www.alpkit.com/sleeping-mats

and yeah, thermarests/airmats still count as hammocking insulation too (especially bridge hammocks), so you're definitely on topic.
my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
    Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)
(see my profile for detailed weights)

    gram counter, not gram weenie!

I have the Exped 9dlx downmat for winter use on and off the ground, and a Pacific Outdoor ether airmat.
Both are giving good service and the Exped has good guarantee. I've heard of them replacing 5 year old mats

What are your experiences with them? I am a little gun shy to go to ground and find a leaking pad.

    Recomendos?
    Did you find the leaks?

If it is a valve issue, thermarest makes a replacement valve kit that is easy to use and works great.

Last year I used the Exped downmat 9 and loved it, but it was a bit bulky to carry so I traded it out for the Exped synmat 7 which was much less bulky and lighter. Spent a week in Oregon in the Eagle Cap Wilderness area with it the last week of August and it was extremely comfortable and fit nicely in my pack.

i have an Exped SynMat 9 Deluxe Air Pad with Pump that i picked up at an REI Garage sale for less than half price. It is wide enough to cover my shoulders in the hammock and the most cozy ground pad i have ever used. It is bulky, but has an R value of 6 and the build in foam pump works decent.

Another +1 on Thermarest NeoAir, a bit spendy but mine has performed well and it seems to be a good way to add a bit of extra insulation in a double layer hammock as well.
    see you on the trail,
    Mike
