carabiner and larks head on HH

So, I read Derek Hansen's book (great read and very informative...things are making more sense) and I liked where he showed an easier way of hanging a HH using a carabiner and a slippery larks head - its simple and easy, its easy to untie and I can see how it simplifies making adjustments.

However, I also saw the method of using a carabiner and two descender rings.

What is the advantage of one vs the other? It seems like the method without the rings is just simpler and less hardware to me.

The descender rings are heavier but offer quicker adjustment and slightly faster setup time. IMHO YEMV
