    i saw this at walmart

http://www.walmart.com/ip/First-Up-C...n-Tan/15904164 the guy working in sporting goods told me it went all the way around the canopy. so i was thinking thats like 40 feet of material and 2 huge zippers for 50 bucks. i had one in my buggy, but changed my mind at the last min. cuz i dont know if it would be good hammock fabric or not. but if it is i think thats enough to make a hammock and have a matching tarp too. i would like to have yalls feedback on this please.

I'm not sure if it's waterproof or not, my concern would be it looks like there is a seam around it about a foot or so up.
    It'll be alright Friday!

    I'm guessing it's not waterproof...just a sun/wind shade and therefore useless as a tarp.

Note: Water Repellent is not water PROOF... In a rainstorm, the tarp will likely drip and leak...

DWR (Durable, Water Restant) coatings are just that, Resistant... I had some DWR that I thought was Silnylon several years ago... found out the hard way in a light rain that I was wrong. I later soaked it in a silicone/mineral spirits solution... it works better now..

If you're just looking for hammock material how about one of the almost finished tablecloths? There are a couple of threads on here at the moment about folks using them to make some nice hammocks for around $12 or so on sale. These are already hemmed as well so all you have to do is gather/whip the end, add suspension, and you're done.

I just made a bridge hammock out of the smaller version of this product (covers just one side of the gazebo: http://www.walmart.com/ip/First-Up-T...-Wall/19902104 ) and it is strong enough to hold 200+ lbs. It's 9.5' x 6', and the seam is at about 60", so you're basically getting 3 linear yards of fabric, plus some scraps, plus some elastic straps and hooks, all for $15. It weighs about 2.2oz/sq yd.

I haven't slept in it yet, so I don't know if it's a vapor barrier, but I can't breathe through it and it appears to hold water, so it might actually make a good tarp, and a bad hammock. I don't have any experience with DWR, so I don't know what to look for, but I'll sleep in it tonight and see how it breathes.

I saw another thread about someone making a tarp out of a sheet by applying a waterproofing material, so you can probably make a matching tarp and hammock out of this material if you want.
