    You have some awesome wool textiles in your neck of the woods, both felted and woven. In your experience, is the reindeer hide better for insulation than these options?

    yes wool is also great ,and scotland is famous for it.that is another alternative a sheepskin rug , i think the reindeer hide would be better for insulation,not sure if it would be better than the sheepskin rug though.the reindeer skins are used all over scandanavia just for these reasons the hair on these skins are hollow ,which allows air to trap .i have several of these skins that i used on the floor of a moskoselkatan tipi .the only problem i have with reindeer skins is that the hairs shed quite a bit.

    Here in Colorado some people winter camp the Rockies by snowshoeing while pulling a toboggan behind them to haul their gear. If I did that I would love a reindeer skin to wrap myself in while hanging. In Sweden an old girlfriend would lay one on the snow to eat lunch while winter hiking. She loved them.
