That was my understanding. In fact, I had followed Dejoha's post elsewhere where the hammock slings passed through the opening made in the tarp lines which made a V starting at the tarp and ran to the tree at each end.
I guess I should try this out, but I thought the tarp lines needed to be at the same level as the ridge of the tarp.

i started with the V method - but most hammock tarps have a cat cut ridgeline =--- and rigging above the hammock suspension works to utilize the cat curve. it also prevents tarp/hmmk lines from colliding.

thank. you. dutch. for no-weight hardware.

I'll admit it almost sounds blasphemous to say "don't use the 'V' method," but in some set-ups, it is a preferred method. There are a few instances when this is decidedly the case:

    1. When the span between anchors is >15 ft
    2. With cat-cut ridge lines AND the span is > 15 ft
    3. When using tarp tie-outs that wrap the anchor (e.g., the example illustrated)

When you have a wide span your hammock sag lower due to the increased length in suspension. This in turn means your tarp will pull further away from the hammock. With minimal coverage tarps, this can be a potential problem.

If you leave a slight slack in the ridge line of the tarp and hang the ridge line at the same point as the hammock suspension then use the tarp side tie downs to pull the tarp down, it provides the coverage needed.

yes , important to hang the tarp ridgeline with a bit of sag, or loose,,, tightening the corner lines with snug everything up nicely.

let a little tension out here and there -- and you can really control the pitch of the tarp quite easily.

Dutch's titanium bits are lovely and light.

If you want proof-of-concept on a budget, look for some brass or brass finished picture hanging hooks or nyloc snap hooks.

Or other hooks from the sewing department. They will all be corrosion proof, safe for your gear, and plenty strong in large sizes.

Would it make any sense to add silicone tubing suspension to one or both sections of the zing-it?

Okay, due to popular demand, I updated the illustration on the original post to show the "V" method alongside the loop-and-hook. Enjoy!

The illustrations are awesome! Trying to picture this stuff in my head while reading text or getting all of the info out of one photo makes my peanut brain cramp something fierce at times!

I'd suggest more than 30' for a CRL. I didn't measure the tree distance my last time out but it didn't seem like it was much. My 30' line didn't cut it. I ended up running my whoopies out as much as I could (they're admittedly short) and used two chainlinks. I'm thinking of going to 45' for extra cushion. I'm using 2.2mm LashIt so it won't be a big weight penalty.
