1st overnite hang this weekend / Gila National Forest

This weekend will be my first over-nite hang that will be spent in Gila National Forest. This will not be a virgin hang as I've taken multiple naps throughout my campus grounds.

I'm pretty excited. I'll go ahead and share my experience, provide photos, and perhaps a video dependent on how hard I try.

I'll be car camping so weight and all that is a non-issue. With that, I won't suffer a cold night. However, I'll note if I use any non-traditional insulation to keep myself warm.

I really hope it goes well. But this won't be a situation that makes or breaks my preferred option on how I sleep outside. I cannot wait to have breakfast from the hammock!

Right on pirate. Have a good hang down there. A cold front is coming through this weekend throughout the state....what is your insulation setup? Edit: Oops, just read your profile. Yah you will be good!!!!

    Love the Gila!

Well, I'm back. It did indeed get a bit colder than average. My thermometer gave a low of 43*F. Around 0430 I got cold feet and had to put on a second layer of socks. I ended up waking at 0700 with cold toes despite an additional heavy pair of merino wool socks.

Considering my insulation was a 30* KAQ Jarbridge and HG 50* Burrow I did alright just wearing medium weight long johns. Maybe I'll look into some down booties or a cheaper option, hand warmers to remedy my problem.

The next planned trip will either be somewhere in Lincoln NF or to check off Texas's tallest peak, Guadalupe.

I only took two lousy pictures of my set up between "too close for proper deployment of my tarp" trees and TATO's Element 2.2 Titanium Woodstove.

If hot chocolate counts as breakfast, yes I did.
