Source For Cheap Carbon Fiber Spreader Bars

I just spotted something interesting tonight. I work at a ****'s Sporting Goods, and I saw some blank golf club shafts for sale for $10 each. These are carbon fiber driver shafts, and are plenty tough enough to be used for a spreader bar on a bridge hammock.

For us shorter guys, or for handy folks who could do some modificating, they can also be used as one-piece trekking poles.

I'm picking up a pair of them tomorrow, so I'll let you know how they work!

    re

Are they carbon fiber or graphite? Are they tapered or the same circumference at the top and bottom?

Took your advise and went to Dicks. I spoke with the Golf technician and amid sentence he ran into the back room. There was a set of graphite (Not Carbon Fiber) shafts that he pulled off of a set that he was replacing. I got them free. While not as light as the CF, can't beat the price. Perhaps others can find the same by simply asking.

Tyler73, so far, I have had no luck with arrows. They're very strong in regards to compressive force, but if you bounce or knock them out of perfect balance and make the load lateral, they shear right off. They might work if you can make the suspension triangle really long to take a lot of the load off, or if you're especially light, but at 145lbs, most guys are bigger than me, and the arrows are way too flimsy.

AtHomeDad, That was my first intention, but we didn't have any that were intact when I talked to our golf tech. I ended up buying a pair of cheap shafts.

I'm trying to figure out how to make them in to a break-down type design for easier stowing and use for spreader bars.
