I haven't tried it personally, but I don't see why it would be a problem. Adding joints does create more weak points. So, you just need to make sure you have the pieces screwed in far enough.

BUILT THIS!! WORKS GREAT!!! Wobbles left/right without caps on the ends of the feet, i stuffed the feet of one side with random spare tiles. Works great. probably could have gone with 3/4"pipes and fittings and been fine for one person, maybe even two lightweights. I fully believe in this 1" stand to two full grown adults and a preteen child, given the hammock isnt decimated lol. I added a paracord tie across the bottom to keep from the ends falling out on me.

Long time stalker here...................hmmm, there's probably not to many times you can use that line in life and not get in trouble

Put together a stand using 2" pipe. Since I'm not planning on tearing it down, I tightened all the joints with a strap wrench and pry bars (the garage is in disarray). Big thanks goes out to Derek for posting the stand instructions a long while ago.

I tightened the daylights outta the union, opposing sides of each tee, and the elbow; everything stays in its place, and it packs up fairly tight. Always end up worrying about the exposed threads when i move it, but heres always a chisel and hammer to tidy them up with if they get marred in transport.

Ditto on the union - I tightened the living daylights out of it - wanted as much thread used up as possible. If you go to Home Depot, you can ask them for some rubber pipe caps to cover the threads. They typically put those on the pipes that they have cut for a customer to prevent thread damage while getting them home.

Also, they're like axe sharp...like stumblin into them with the underside of your foot causes odd shavey lacerations that're really really slow to heal and annoying lol. Checkin home depot for the lil pipe condom things.
