    what is the thickest suspension

    Doing some market research...

The thickest suspension I could think of is the HH explorer and the old speer with webbing 4 wrap method.
I wasn't sure about the Clarks but I though that used something like explorer.

I don't mean after the rings, buckles, whatever. I mean connected directly to the hammock. Also I don't mean the thick rope that connects the s-hook on those cheap hammock in a bag type. They really aren't a viable suspension.

sounds like you hit it with the Hennessy then. Mine is around 1/4 in. I can measure it if you want.

I'm sure a Clark owner will pop in but I thought the Clarks used thicker rope. Could be 5/16" to 1/2" rope.

FWIW, if you are looking for sizes to play with hardware for I like 1/8 for ridge lines and such a lot better than the smaller high strength stuff. I understand the issues but that size is a lot easier on my hands and easier to knot. I also think it puts less stress on light nylon when used under a tarp as the ridge line.

I'm not sure what the stock rope diameter was on my Clark, but I can tell you that it is indeed thick.

Clark uses two different sizes .. both polypropylene .. it's either

    Black Twisted Polypropylene Rope
    Dia.: 5/16"
    Approx Test lbs.: 1710
    or ..
    Dia.: 3/8"
    Approx Test lbs.: 1130

    depending on the model ..
