    Suspension Anchor Point

    Hi Guys,

Was hoping someone could help. I have one tree out my back garden where i can suspend my hammock but need another anchor point. I was thinking one of these (http://www.screwfix.com/p/rawlplug-r...ack-of-5/80842) off the back of my garage that is roughly opposite the tree and about 6 m apart. Only thing i'm concerned about is i'm quite a large guy (6'2", about 19.5 stone and built quite large) and was wondering if it would take my weight. Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Brick is normally just over the surface of the house and other than intermittent anchor points it's not attached fully to the base structure. I would think it could get really bad really quick if you tried to hang from it. Find solid structure or plant a 6x6 in 3-4 foot of concrete in the backyard.

    If installed correctly

If you install your anchor correctly into solid cement base, The Bricks will pull before that anchor. But mortar joints are not really all that structural. I would recommend putting up a 4x4 post instead of using a mortar joint.
The trick with a post is that it will not have a lot of lateral stability with the weight you are putting on it. I would cement the post into the ground a foot or two deep and then run a cable from the top of the post to the anchor you are intending to put into your garage or pour another cement anchor point like a pal of cement buried into the ground. But I would see if you could mount that anchor point into the foundation or cement floor slab of the garage instead of the mortar joint.

Another thought, if possible is to run a bolt all the way through your garage wall and 2x4 by 36 inches piece of wood that crosses the frame work in the wall. this should hold your weight with the structure of the wall. But I like the installing a new post idea the best.... Less Risk to your perminent structures.
    hope this helps

Eeek, don't use in a brick mortar joint, they are meant for vertical stress not horizontal. BAD IDEA.

Forgot to say mine is on solid cement, actually structural walls as someone said before bricks couldn't hold horizontal forces.
I use parabolts like this but in solid walls
