    Talking Z-Line Spectra 1.5mm or Zing-It 1.75mm

Which do you prefer and why?

    Z-Line Spectra 1.5mm from zpacks.com
    or
    zing-it 1.75mm from dutch?

I currently own the spectra line and use it on my tarp. I like it and its easy to see and work with. Its also 2 grams lighter per 50', but that's no biggie.

I'm looking for how well it holds up, visibility at night, ease to work with, etc... My wife likes figure 9's or dutch's tarp flyz so that is how she will be rigging her lines on her tarp.

    Thank!

I've primarily used Zing-it (or Speer no-tangle and mason line) and the zing-it has worked well. Actually more pliable than the speer but not as noticeable colour wise.

Both lines should server you well. Z-Line is great stuff but I really prefer lines that I can splice like zing it/lash it. If you're scrutinizing weight then you'll eventually migrate away from figure 9's to lighter options. I still use dutch flyz but I'm also using a shackled prusik with a Dutch hook spliced onto it that is a sub 1gm option, easy to reposition and manipulate, even with cold wet hands.

My strategy is to use less hardware and replace knots with smooth splices wherever practical in order to reduce tangling.

It may have been an isolated batch, but the Z-line I bought had tiny "hernias" scattered throughout where the spectra core pooched through the sheath. I've heard various explanations for this, and some say it does not compromise the strength of the line, but for my money, it's an inferior product. I have used Speer no-tangle extensively, which has similar construction, and have not experienced this.

As noted, the spectra core lines are not easily splicable, and must be knotted. I have learned that if I resist the urge to melt the bitter end, and allow it to fray to the knot, it results in a much "softer" knot that is not nearly so tangle prone.

Which do I prefer? I like 'em both. The single braid dyneema lines are easy to splice, light, and look really cool. They are tangle resistant, but not to the same degree as the Speer. The Speer is almost impossible to tangle, very visible, and because the sheath is grippy, makes fine Prusics. And, there's a part of me that just digs knots.

I'm very happy with Lash It. I use 2.2 for things like my CRL and 1.75 for soft shackles etc. I'll probably get some Zing It also. Never know when you might want to use yellow.

Lash It splices incredibly well. It's very easy to work with.
