    Momentum 90 T Hammock

I got the idea from MedicineMan at Sgt. Rock's UL rendevous last month, so I made a Momentum 90T Hammock. I started out with 11' of fabric that was about 58.5" wide, ordering the fabric from thru-hiker.com at a cost of $9.95/yd, plus ordered the guterman thread off backwoodsdaydreamer.com . 7/64 whoopies & Dutch Quilt Hooks off Dutch, and RL off whoopies.com . I don't sew so I took this to a fabric shop and had the girls there sew it for me, giving me a 1/2 rolled hem down the sides and 1" rolled hem across the ends. I also put Knotty's Mod's on the head and foot box of this hammock also to take up alittle slack on the sides. Finished hammock ended up 56 3/4" x 10'4" long. The finished hammock weight came in at 6.6 ozs...not bad at all. After rigging the hammock up with everything in the pics,,including 6' tree slings, 2 - 4' long 1/8 amsteel extensions with loops, and 2 nano 23 Biners ,total pack weight with a Zpacks hammock bag of Zpacks cuben fiber came in at 15.5 oz. My total weight for packing a 11" Snipe by Wilderness Logics was 25.5 ozs so my weight savings was 10 ozs total for this project. BUT! The feel of laying on Momentum 90T is TOTALLY AWESOME! OMG! What a feeling this fabric gives you,,granted its a dash stretchy,,but once you have your whoopies dialed in there is absolutely no stretch, no shoulder squeeze, and a super flat lay along with an absolutely totally different feel of laying in a hammock. I have layed in a Grand Trunks Skeeter Beater Pro, Standard GT hammock, UL GT Hammock, Warbonet 1.7 Travel, and the Snipe,,with the best of all of those I own,,the Snipe hands down till this hammock. I will sleep in it tonite and let you know how I fared,,but this, I know is going to be my, "go to" Hammock. Here are some pics and I hope they show alittle of how I rigged it and how it lays. Laying in this hammock is unlike anything I have ever laid in and the feel is absolutely awesome!

Awesome stuff (and hammock of course) Acer!

May I ask what your weight is? As I have been considering making a hammock out of the M90T.

M90 taffeta is some mighty nice fabric, but I haven't tried it for a hammock. I was afraid of too much stretch with my 200#.

No noticeable stretch at all, especially once you set the hammock up,,get in it once and then retighten about 2 inches on the whoopies and good to go. I will sleep in it tonite. Its also breathable as have to use a light underquilt when air conditioning is blowing on it. You can feel the breeze thru it.

I thought about trying the M 50, but decided on this first using the M 90...Heck,,I have about 10,000 yds of tafetta in stock for our trade show useage in every imaginable color,,,but its very lite stuff,, But! IF Newtron gets no stretch,,it might be workable for a light weight like me,,at 165lbs,,,this one came in at 6.6oz before rigging imagine what the M 50 will come in weight wise.

A single layered hammock of your dimensions should be about 4.6 oz. of material. But, I wouldn't go single layer with M50. I've made quilts using M50 and it's barely there.
