    Coated tarp vs Ultralight tarp

Equinox makes two kinds of tarps: a heavier "coated tarp" that is urethane coated and much less expensive and an "ultralight tarp" made of silnylon. The description sounds like you ordered the heavier one. But if it actually weighs only 16 oz then they may have sent you the silnylon one.

Either their shipping people are messed up (in which case you really scored a deal) or your scale is messed up.

Can you tell by feel whether the tarp is silnylon or urethane coated?

Hopefully I help you all out to score a deal. I purchased this tarp from here 2 years ago and they are still offering it for the same price. It is the 1.1 sil ultralight tarp. Maybe I got lucky, but they only offer this tarp from Equinox, so I'm not sure how stock would get messed up. Worth a try, just return if it's not. But I truelly believe its the 1.1.

Three or four years ago EMS was blowing these out for $8.00. That's right $8.00!! The original tag was still on the product (way expensive) and the $8.00 tag was a handwritten clearance tag. That was when I was first getting into this tarp thing and I really didn't know what I was looking at. I only bought two, figuring the deal was too good to be true. I saw the markdown in two different stores...and both stores had a bunch of them. After easily selling one on ebay for $45.00 I went back to clean them out but was too late. I still have the other one...not sure if it's exactly the same as what's being discussed.

I like the HH Hex 70d. It's a little heavier than other tarps but the coverage it gives and quality for $55 is tough to beat.
