All about US Mil digital camo

The art of camouflage is not discussed here.

But this may be all anyone needs to know or how to find out more about the why in US digital camo and multi-cam in the field now and what will be showing up in surplus stores and in imitation.

Goes some way in explaining my much maligned DD multicam tarp with its repetitive pattern and non-stealth ability.
i.e. "Oh, I didn't see you there with your pack and fuel stove going. i saw your tarp but." (????????????????)

Interesting read. The Airforce had Olive drab greens just before I enlisted in 89. By the time I was issued BDU's they were woodland camo. At one point they did a wear test for some blue and grey tigerstripe camo but ultimately decided on their current ABU's, a semi pixelated tigerstripe. It will be interesting to see what the next decade brings in the camo world.

Compared to camo options, getting advice (in another thread) on a green vs brown JRB tarp is easy.

If that question hadn't been asked today, and if some weren't willing to pay Clark's premium for (woodland?) camo, I might have passed this article by.

The manufacturer of the camo pattern for ABU's blasts their own work due to bureaucratic meddling at the bottom of this page

As mentioned in the slate article, "pixelated" was the in-thing. The AF didn't want to be left out, but apparently didn't feel the need to read any of the science advocating for pixel patterned micro/macro camouflage. The pixelated edges don't break up the larger swaths of color, and the pallette chosen is laughable. Over time it has grown on me, but I am under no delusions this pattern helps me blend in with anything other than the desk I sit behind. My guys in Afghanistan now have the OCP multicam uniforms the army is likely to adopt next.

Ah Canada - I can see why this is a problem Even the English Guards at Buckingham wear green now...wouldn't want to see this in the woods would you?

I am huge on camo for my hammock and their were a few well thought out camo hammocks at the Maaha this year, there. But the search for 1.1 Ripstop nylon with camo with manufacturers is the real issue. The Paint weakens the tarp.

My camo superfly tarp can easily be seen! I did a one night solo in my OD cheapo jungle hammock for testing and never could see that thing in the brush.

Our olive drab coveralls and Nomex suits blended in better. They did make sure that we got the dessert camo for the plane ride back to Germany though .

I do like the ACU digital in a snowy pine forest though. The green in the camo takes over against the green trees and the lighter color blends well enough against the snow.
