sounds like a good time
sounds like a good time
I forgot about my family reunion on Sunday, so maybe just hang at Bee Rock for an overnight on Friday.
Originally from Louisville Ky. but I’ve called the Columbia Ky. area home for 30 years now.
Re: Mammoth Cave National Park
I received a phone call last night about squeezing in another kayak camping trip with some of my Water Dog recruits. (Nobody around my area paddled back when I first got into it so I recruited new paddlers with the lure of using my extra boats.) When we get a date pinned down I’ll post it up. It should be sometime in the next 3 weeks. If any of you can make the trip that would be great!
I don’t do well planning in advance as I tend to over stress about it. My schedule is really flexible and most of the time I enjoy last minute, spur of the moment trips. I like to see which way the wind blows me, lol.
Floating the river (IMO) is the best way to experience the park.
You have far less stipulations and regulations that you are supposed to adhere to. A lot more freedom makes for a better experience.
You can have a group as large as you want and can camp just about anywhere (sans the areas 1/2 mile above and below the ferry crossings.
I saw quite a few eagles in the fall last year. And the fall colors are awesome as well.
Downside to the fall is the flow is often quite low. If you are a hardcore paddler you don't mind. But I like to lounge and let the current take me.
Lazy paddler.
I had a good hang with my son, I learned some things but have more to learn. My tarp slacked overnight so I'm thinking I'll re-do my lines and maybe do some tensioners.
The best part........slept like a baby all toasty in my down quilts. I was a little hot with the UQ until about 2am.
My son was skeptical that the hammock would hold him, it did but the GT SBP did sag/stretch ALOT, not sure it was the stock suspension or what. I will be upgrading the suspension once I figure out what I need.
I'm ready to go again.
My home internet is down. I just wanted to post up a quick date/time/location for the paddle I mentioned. This Friday 9-21-12 @ 2:00 CST we are doing a kayak camping trip in Mammoth Cave National Park WEATHER PERMITTING. We are meeting @ 2:00 at the Green River Ferry ramp and paddling to the Houchins Ferry ramp on the Green River. Camping Friday night midway between the two ramps. Anyone who would like to join in is welcome. I'm sorry I couldn't get this posted any sooner. If I ever get my dag-gone internet repaired I'll check back in here for messages or as much as I hate to do it at work. (I already feel guilty about doing this at work). Message me if you are interested in joining us.
Kentucky is the only state not planning a group hang! Someone get the ball rolling, I bought Spam Singles, don't make me cook them at home!
Pick a place, pick a date. Not hard. Plan it and they will come (or they won't their loss).
I'm going tonight to test some mods to my sons hammock. I think I've converted him to my way of hanging.
