Which end of Whoopie Sling to goes Up?

    I'm a noob -

Have been reviewing the material on Whoopie Slings and have noted that while most appear to attach the fixed eye to the hammock (with a lark's head), some are attaching the fixed eye to the tree hugger.

    Advantages/disadvantages to either?

I just think it's easier to adjust with fixed eye on the hammock.

With Dutch Whoopie Hooks as the bead stopper on the whoopie, you just clip them onto your continuous loop (on gathered end or channel hammocks). During takedown, unclip the whoopie hooks and pack up the hammock separately from the whoopie slings (which may be wet from rain). I find this much more convenient.

Larkshead the closed eye to the hammock. Thats probably the most popular way.
I usually do two wraps and then tuck the adjustable end thru the closed eye. Cinch it down tight and it'll stay put.

The larksheaded whoopie is an easy detach if it's wet. Just slide the loop out. It's the same as changing a looped fly line leader.

I have always hung with my whoops larks headed through the gathered end. I have recently been thinking about reversing that with the Dutch hooks or some other configuration. You will find yourself experimenting a buttload and find all kinds of cool ways to hang!

Quick answer - fixed eye goes on the hammock.

Real answer - it doesn't matter...use it however is most convenient to you.

I also use the fixed eye on the hammock, but my reasoning was that it would be easier to adjust this way. The adjustable end is hanging out of the splice closest to me, and all I need to do is draw it closer.

    pulling toward the hammock

I'm like most of the above. I like the fixed eye lark'ed to the hammock, when adjusting I'm pulling toward the hammock keeping me under the fly if raining.
I have embraced the Dutch Hook, it's on a continuous loop that is lark'ed to the hammock. The fixed eye of the whoopie lark'ed to the continuous loop.
Soon I'm going to play with a Dutch Buckle....too many times in the last 10-20 hangs I've need far less suspension, e.g. tree hugger (though a couple of times I needed more)....so I've been marlin spike hitching to hang between close trees. The Dutch Buckle will decrease my set up times in those cases.
